Acceptable Use Policy
Phone Validator helps businesses check phone numbers they already have. This policy sets out what that does and doesn't include. It is part of our Terms of Service.
Effective October 22, 2026. Version 2026-10-22.
1. Intended use
Use the Service to check phone numbers that your business, or a customer you serve, obtained in the ordinary course of its own activities, for example:
- numbers your customers, applicants, leads or users gave you;
- numbers in your own CRM, support or contact records;
- leads you bought from a lead provider, for your own business;
- leads your business generated, such as from your own forms, ads or calls, including before you sell or deliver them to lead buyers (Section 6.2 of our Terms sets what you may share with a buyer); or
- numbers a customer of yours obtained, which you check for it under Section 6.4 of our Terms of Service.
Typical purposes include keeping contact records accurate, choosing how to contact someone who gave you their number, spotting fake or mistyped numbers at signup, routing calls and messages, and preventing fraud.
2. No scanning, enumeration or harvesting
You may not use the Service to find out which numbers exist, are in service or have particular characteristics among numbers you didn't obtain as Section 1 describes. In particular, you may not:
- submit sequential, generated, random or range-based numbers (for example every number in an area code, exchange or block) rather than numbers you obtained as described in Section 1;
- use the Service to discover, harvest, compile or confirm phone numbers or their characteristics for building, enriching or selling lists, directories or databases. Checking your own records is allowed, and so is checking a customer's own records for its internal use under Section 6.4 of the Terms;
- test, append or "clean" lists you bought, rented or scraped in order to resell them or make them more valuable to others;
- map numbering ranges, carriers' customers, porting activity or line-type patterns across numbers you don't otherwise have a reason to check; or
- scrape, crawl or automate the website or free lookup, or use bots, scripts or headless browsers against any part of the Service other than the API.
We enforce rate limits, may review unusual volumes, and may suspend access immediately when we find these uses.
3. No identifying, locating or targeting people
You may not use the Service or results to:
- identify who holds or uses a number, or combine results with other data to do so for people search, reverse lookup, skip tracing or background checks;
- locate, track, monitor or surveil any person, or infer where someone is;
- stalk, harass, threaten, intimidate, dox or harm anyone, or target anyone because of a protected characteristic;
- use the Service or results to identify or locate a judge, prosecutor, law enforcement officer, election official or other person whose home address or telephone number is protected by law (such as New Jersey's Daniel's Law), or to contact or harass them because of that role; or
- support SIM-swap fraud, account takeover, impersonation, social engineering or any other fraud against people or carriers.
4. No FCRA uses or eligibility decisions
You may not use the Service or results, in whole or in part, as a factor in deciding any individual's eligibility for credit, insurance, employment, housing, government benefits or any other purpose regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act or similar state laws. You may not provide results to a consumer reporting agency, or use them as the basis for adverse action against an individual.
5. Calls, texts and marketing
You may not use the Service to support calls, texts or messages that violate the TCPA, the Telemarketing Sales Rule, CAN-SPAM, state telemarketing laws, carrier messaging rules or Do Not Call requirements. Examples include sending unsolicited robocalls or texts, or using line type as a substitute for consent. A result is never permission to contact anyone.
6. Resale and competing use
You may resell results to your own customers, or embed them in a product or service you offer, only as Section 6.4 of the Terms of Service allows. You may not:
- give your customers direct access to the Service or your API keys, or let anyone other than your staff, contractors and the integration platforms you connect use your keys;
- sell, license or deliver results as a database, list or data feed compiled from more than one customer's requests, or use them to build one;
- serve customers for any use this policy prohibits; or
- use the Service to build or train a competing data source, or to copy our data.
7. Security and integrity
You may not:
- probe, scan or test the vulnerability of the Service, or bypass authentication or other security, except under our vulnerability disclosure process and in good faith;
- overload or disrupt the Service, or send traffic designed to do so;
- get around rate limits, quotas, free-lookup limits, prices or blocks, for example by rotating IP addresses or sharing keys, or by using several accounts or keys to exceed a limit we've set for your account. Using a separate key for each system or customer is fine;
- access the Service through another customer's account or key;
- submit malware or content designed to exploit or harm the Service; or
- misrepresent who you are or why you are using the Service.
8. Data you submit
- Submit only phone numbers you have a lawful basis to process, and only the numbers you need checked.
- Don't send names, addresses, account numbers, government identifiers, health or financial information, or other personal information the Service doesn't need. Upload only the phone column of a spreadsheet.
- Don't submit data subject to the EU or UK General Data Protection Regulation unless we have signed a data transfer addendum with you.
9. Unlawful and restricted use
You may not use the Service in violation of any law, regulation, court order or the rights of others. That includes privacy, consumer protection, anti-discrimination, export control and sanctions laws. You may not use the Service from, or for anyone in, a sanctioned country or region, or for a person on a U.S. government restricted-party list.
10. Free lookups
The free lookup on our website is for occasional, manual checks by business users. It has hourly and daily limits. Automated, bulk or high-volume use of the free lookup is not allowed: use an account, a batch or the API instead. Free lookups are offered at our discretion. We may limit, slow, block or refuse them for any person, device, network or region, at any time and without notice, as Section 2.6 of the Terms describes.
11. Enforcement and reporting
If we believe this policy has been broken, we may investigate, and we may remove access, suspend or revoke API keys, suspend or close accounts, and refuse service, as the Terms describe. We may report suspected illegal activity to law enforcement and cooperate with lawful investigations. To report misuse, email info@phonevalidator.com. To ask us to stop looking up your number, use our privacy request form.
We may update this policy as described in the Terms. If you're unsure whether a use is allowed, ask us first.
